This page will help you get started creating eBooks. We've put together a few templates for you to use, and have provided a few notes around design and accessibility requirements.

Writing

This template for Google Docs aligns closely to the paragraph styles defined in our eBook InDesign templates, and gives some guidance around how to structure your document. Once 100% completed, the Doc can be used to create a new PDF using our design language.

Design

Design templates and assets live in the Brand Studio's shared Google Drive so that outside vendors have access, too. Contact Brand Studio to view the guidelines to get a better understanding on useage, links, fonts, exporting, accessibility, and a how-to.

A basic two-page eBook with plenty of formatting options. This can be used for a minimum of two pages right through to 3-5 pages.

Use

You must adhere to the template when making eBooks.

Do

Do stick to the guidelines and templates provided by the GitHub Brand Studio team.

Do ensure all colors are accessible.

Do tag your PDF properly for accessibility.

Don’t

Don't use stock photography.

Don't insert icons, illustrations or octocats as space-fillers.

Don't overload the layout. White space is your friend.
